CONSTRUCTIVISM THEORY

 

Constructivism theory is emphasized acquiring knowledge structure through experiences.  This is important and related to this study since students are aware of the meaning of developing speaking skill through podcasts, thus they reflect on their process by bringing prior knowledge to the learning process. Ng'ambi & Lombe (2011) cited by Campbell (2008) quotes Merriam and Caffarella (2001), who define constructivism as “...an array of perspectives, posits that learners construct their own knowledge from their experiences. The cognitive process of making meaning is emphasized as both an individual mental activity and a social interactive interchange” (2008, p. 75). Constructivism visualizes learning by understanding through collaboration and active involvement. Ng'ambi & Lombe (2011) cited by Mayes and de Freitas (2004) claim that constructivism is studied by reflecting on knowledge and skills, also reflecting on existing structures. Finally, they mention that productive learning can be studied in a different context by making use of technologies which gives learners an opportunity to reflect and independent learning.
